Understanding Dry Skin

Before anything , it is essential to understand the characteristics of dry skin. Unlike other skin types, dry skin produces very little sebum. To prevent moisture loss and to keep the skin hydrated, sufficient sebum production in the skin is required. Its inadequacy leads to lack of moisture retention making the skin visibly dull, tight, flaky and rough. Sometimes, the skin may also get itchy, irritated and have visible fine lines and wrinkles.

Other than naturally having dry skin, there are other factors that can cause dry skin. Factors like a damaged skin barrier, dry or cold weather, harsh products, etc. 

If you are still unsure about your skin type, you can try the watch and wait method. Begin by washing your face with a gentle cleanser, wait 30 minutes and then press a blotting paper all over your face. If the paper gets soaked with little to no oil. then you have dry skin.
