Contrary to the common opinion that skincare is a feminine thing, men in fact like any other woman need skincare too. Everyone does regardless of their gender or skin type. The purpose of skincare is not for appearance alone but for skin health too. While most men without a proper routine may have clear skin, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have healthy skin. They may suffer from skin concerns like a compromised skin barrier, dull skin and sunburn to name a few. A good skincare routine helps to curb these problems now and in the future.  In this article, we’ll walk you through a basic skincare routine to help the guys get started.

Basic Skincare Routine For Men

Step 1. Cleanse

This is where using antiseptic soaps to cleanse your face ends, gentlemen. While it may appear that they do a good job at cleansing your face, they actually strip your skin of all its natural oils. You should instead look for a gentle pH-balanced facial cleanser that will effectively cleanse your face without disrupting its natural barrier.

Cleansers come in many forms and it is the first step of any routine. They can be oil-based, foamy, creamy or gel-like. They may also come in the form of clay or micellar water.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, you should go for a cream based cleanser. For oily skin, it is highly recommended to go for gel based cleansers. Lastly, for combination skin types, a foaming cleanser is the perfect choice.

To get started, our Sioris Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser is anyone’s best bet. It is a gentle and effective cleanser safe for everyday use. It perfectly cleanses the skin without stripping it leaving the skin clean and refreshed.

Step 2. Moisturize

Moisturizers help with water retention in the skin leaving it hydrated, healthy and plum. Some of the ingredients you should look out for in a moisturizer are hyaluronic acid, glycerine, peptides and ceramides. They also greatly help with your skin barrier.

For a start, you should go for lightweight and oil-free moisturizers particularly if you have oily skin. This is to help prevent clogged up pores that can in turn lead to breakouts.

Moisturizers are  often in the form of creams, lotions and gels. While some may be lightweight, others can be thicker depending on what it seeks to achieve. Someone with dry skin will want to go for a moisturizer with thicker consistency if lightweight moisturizers don’t seem hydrating enough.

Moisturizers come after cleansing in a basic routine and just like cleansing, you should moisturize both in the morning and night.

Our Aromer Deep Moisture Soothing Cream provides instant hydration to the skin. It also soothes and calms the skin making it the perfect moisturizer for people with sensitive skin.

Step 3. Protect

You should always finish off your morning routine with a sunscreen of not less than spf 30. Sunscreen protects the skin from a number of things like sun damage, uneven skin tone, premature aging and even cancers! Its importance in a routine is often underestimated but honestly, a routine without sunscreen is basically…useless. Sunscreen should be applied every day and even on cloudy days. It should also be applied every two hours especially if you are exposed to the sun (sounds demanding? Yeah, I know).

However, unlike cleansers and moisturizers, sunscreens are not part of your night routine.

Extra Tips

  • If you’re having a hard time figuring out your skin type and choosing the right products, consult a skincare expert.
  • For a more advanced routine, you can add hydrating or brightening serums to your routine as well as toners and even exfoliants.
  • After shaving, apply a gentle moisturizer to your skin to reduce sensitivity.
  • If you often get ingrown hairs, use an exfoliant on your skin a once to thrice a week to remove dead skin cells.
