Hear me out. After a hectic regular “Nigerian” day, and you finally get to lay on your bed surrounded by soft fluffy pillows, warm blankets and the AC on full blast and you remember your night routine at that moment? Exactly, you get lazy and honestly who hasn’t been there? 

But the truth is consistency is key, especially when it comes to nighttime skincare. Skipping it may not show immediate consequences, but neglecting this crucial step can lead to dull, grime-laden skin.

Importance of a Night Routine

Night routines are special because they make you feel relaxed after a long day. It is only right for you to treat yourself to that.  Asides that, to keep the skin healthy and your pores clean, you have to be consistent with your night routine. At night during sleep, your skin cells regenerate and the skin repairs itself through increased production of  melatonin, a hormone that protects the skin. We should take advantage of this process and aid it with beneficial nighttime skincare products. 

Below are other reasons why you should never skip your nighttime routine:

At night, your skincare products penetrate better than usual. Double cleansing even aids penetration of these products better. Wanna know where the tea is? When your skincare product melts into your skin easily, its effectiveness increases. So if you have any product with a skincare active, best believe you’re going to be getting its full benefit at night.

A healthy skin barrier equals healthy skin.  You can seize the opportunity to easily renew and repair your skin barrier at night. You can aid your skin’s natural rejuvenating process by adding barrier repairing and hydrating products to your routine. With time, your skin’s overall health, complexion and texture will improve.

At night, sebum production reduces. In order to keep your skin hydrated all night long and to make up for absence of moisture, a nighttime routine is required. Cleansing after a long day helps to get rid of all the dirt, sweat, makeup and sunscreen you’ve had on all day. This process helps to prevent what would have accumulated on your skin to eventually clog your pores. And clogged pores means higher chances of breakouts.

We recommend double cleansing at night using an oil cleanser and a gel cleanser to ensure you’ve totally gotten rid of the impurities on your face.

Reverses Daytime Damage

There are several environmental aggressors during the day including UV rays and pollution that can damage the skin. Just think of your nighttime routine as a superhero that helps to undo the damage caused by these aggressors .
